Understanding Your Health, One Question at a Time
October 12, 2026
Health Literacy Month is a great reminder that understanding your health can make a big difference in your daily life.
Good conversations with your health care team can help you feel more confident, informed, and in control of your health. Here are eight important questions to ask at your next appointment:
- Is my medication list up to date? Medication needs can change over time. Reviewing your medications regularly helps make sure they are still working well together and supporting your health.
- Am I current on my vaccines? Vaccines help protect against illnesses that can be more serious as we age. Staying up to date is an important part of preventive care.
- What health screenings do I need? Many health conditions can be easier to treat when found early. Regular screenings help your care team identify concerns before they become bigger problems.
- Is my level of physical activity right for me? The right amount of activity can help improve strength, balance, and overall wellness. Your provider can recommend exercises that fit your health needs and abilities.
- Who should I call if I have a health concern between visits? Knowing who to contact can help you get answers quickly when questions or symptoms arise. Having a plan in place can also provide peace of mind.
- How can I better manage my health conditions? Whether you have diabetes, arthritis, high blood pressure, or another condition, your provider can help you find ways to feel your best and avoid complications.
- What lifestyle changes would help me most? Small changes in areas like nutrition, sleep, hydration, or stress management can have a positive impact on your health. Your provider can help you focus on what matters most.
- How can I keep my mind healthy and stay sharp? Brain health is just as important as physical health. Your provider can suggest activities and habits that support memory, focus, and emotional well-being.
